Previously, it was believed that hop cultivation in Brazil was not viable. However, after numerous attempts, a farmer from São Bento do Sapucaí – SP, achieved the first harvest in 2016, using the Cascade hop variety. Since then, hop production has expanded to different regions of the country, sparking the interest of breweries in incorporating Brazilian hops into their beverages and encouraging research to characterize and understand their properties. Therefore, it becomes crucial to conduct a study that presents the current situation of hop production and scientific research on Brazilian hop varieties, which is the main objective of this work. An integrative literature review, with a qualitative approach, was conducted on the SciELO, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar electronic databases between February and October 2023, using the descriptors “hops,” “Brazilian hops,” “hop production in Brazil,” “brazilian hop,” and “hops.” It was found that hops are currently cultivated in 14 states, with Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, and Paraná standing out, totaling 75 thousand plants nationwide. Regarding research, 13 publications were identified, including 12 scientific articles and 1 book. These studies discuss the quality and importance of hop cultivation in Brazil. Although it is believed that the journey to achieve significant production capable of meeting the demand of the Brazilian beer industry is long, the initial steps have been taken, as evidenced in the published works of quality.
