Environmental sustainability encompasses food systems that involve ecosystems, human systems, economics, energy, and health to ensure food and nutritional security. Healthy and sustainable diets must have a low environmental impact, protect biodiversity, be culturally and economically accessible, nutritionally adequate, and optimize natural and human resources. Compliance practices, such as traceability and carbon footprint control, are strategies that help companies align with regulations, while advocacy serves as a tool for influence and engagement to strengthen sustainability policies. This study aims to discuss the importance of these topics from the perspective of nutritionists. To this end, the descriptors "environmental sustainability and nutrition," “food system,” “advocacy and compliance and nutrition” were used in the MedLine database via PubMed without temporal limits. A total of 32 articles were identified; however, none directly addressed the theme of this study. Food production, acquisition, and consumption influence the entire food chain, which increasingly seeks conscious and sustainable consumption. Given their central role, nutritionists must be attentive and engaged in promoting health and encouraging sustainable practices. Although this study highlights the importance of sustainability in nutritional practice, there is a gap in the literature regarding practical guidelines to assist nutritionists in implementing sustainable strategies. Future studies could explore methodologies for integrating sustainable practices into meal planning and analyzing the impacts of these actions on health and the environment.
