Abstract

Acute Viral Bronchiolitis (AVB) is a clinical syndrome of respiratory distress that mostly affects children under two years of age, predominantly in the first six months of life, mainly affecting premature newborns. It is a frequent cause of hospitalization in pediatrics, occurs epidemically in the fall and winter months, due to its seasonal distribution, and this pathology is mainly caused by the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Therefore, this expanded summary aims to explore the clinical signs and treatment of AVB in the current pediatric setting, in addition to contextualizing associated epidemiological and genetic characteristics. This is a qualitative literature review study carried out through a descriptive approach. According to the research carried out in three articles, it was possible to observe the predominance of tachypnea, hypoxia, respiratory distress and wheezing in more severe cases, in addition to the need for oxygen therapy and hydration as fundamental treatment in reversing the clinical picture. It is therefore concluded that clinical diagnosis, monitoring and appropriate treatment are essential as they allow early detection of complications.
