Cavitation is a physical phenomenon that occurs when the pressure of a fluid drops below its vapor pressure, causing the formation of vapor bubbles that implode, resulting in damage to surfaces and components. This paper explores the issues caused by cavitation in hydraulic and mechanical systems, addressing its causes, adverse effects, and associated challenges. Cavitation can lead to significant damage to components such as pumps, propellers, and valves, resulting in operational failures and increased maintenance costs. Prevention and control strategies are also discussed, including the use of resistant materials, proper system design, and techniques to minimize the impacts of cavitation. The paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the phenomenon and offer practical solutions for its mitigation.
